How To: Set Up a Stand-alone Kiosk

If you have a stand-alone PC that students use to log themselves in, here is how you can set it to automatically go into kiosk mode.

Create the Kiosk:
Trac Navigation > Search Glass icon > Center Profiles > (click your profile name) >
Group Access tab > (click your group name) > KIOSK List tab > KIOSK Name: (enter your kiosk name) > (scroll down) > ‘Save KIOSK’ button

Create a Generic Kiosk User:
We need to add a user account that is just for activating the kiosk.

Trac Navigation > Search Glass icon > Center Profiles > (click your profile name) >
Group Access tab > (click your group name) > User List tab > Create new button > Login Name: (enter your generic kiosk user name) > Name: (enter a name) > Password: (enter password) > Confirm: (confirm the password > Save User button > (click the name of the user you just created) > Auto switch to KISOK Mode: (select your kiosk) > Save User button

Whenever you use the new generic kiosk user to log in, the screen will automatically go into kiosk mode.

Web Browser Kiosk Mode:
Tutor Trac is accessed through a web browser. There are ways to set the web browser to open up in a kiosk mode.

If you are using FireFox as a web browser, it has a kiosk add-on.

If you are using Internet Explorer (IE), you can use the built in kiosk mode. First create a shortcut to IE on the desktop.
Next, right-click the shortcut and select properties.
Inside the Target box, add the following text to the END of what is already there:
-k https://CAMPUSTUTORTRACURL.EDU/tracweb40/default.html?localacct=yes
(replace CAMPUSTUTORTRACURL.EDU with your own Trac system URL for your campus.)
Then, click the OK button at the bottom.
Now, when you double click that new IE shortcut, the browser will open in kiosk mode.
